Summer farm irrigation resource consent holders are required to ensure that all water measuring and recording equipment is installed, upgraded or verified by an accredited/suitably qualified service provider, and that water data is submitted using the correct format and processes.
The good news for farmers is that Rainer ensures that all of this is done correctly, holding their “blue tick” accreditation with Irrigation NZ. Your consented water take data is submitted daily on your behalf with the correct format and process, using a qualified data management provider.
Working with Rainer gives farmers the confidence that their water measurement systems are all installed, maintained and verified in a way that complies with the requirements of national regulations and your consent conditions.
Minimum Flows – irrigation restrictions
Across Canterbury and Otago dry conditions continue, it is important that irrigators understand the minimum flow conditions on their consents and when restrictions come into effect.
Individual river water restriction information (ECan) can be found at: https://www.ecan.govt.nz/data/irrigation-restrictions
How the river flow information is updated
The information is updated daily. Flow and restriction information for the following day will become available at 3pm for rivers that have flow calculated via a telemetered system and at 5pm for rivers that have flow gauged or assessed by staff in the field.
Flow and restriction information in the today’s column will become Today’s Flow and Today’s Restrictions at midnight. A dash indicates flow data is not yet available. Any changes in flow and restrictions will update during this time and apply only from midnight.
“Farmers in areas affected by the dry should check the restriction updates daily.”
Rainer’s “blue tick” irrigation status and consents
Rainer is well versed in the council requirements for farmer’s ECan irrigation measurement and recording, e.g. how much water is taken in each 15-minute period, and ensuring this data is submitted daily.
Water meters for recording
We are approved to supply and upgrade water metering systems, that are consented to take more than five litres per second. As well as calibrating water meters we also check that they are installed at every point of the take.
As well as installing the system we maintain your plant ensuring that data is submitted daily on your behalf by a suitably qualified data management provider, using our format and process.
Has your water meter been verified recently?
It is important that water meters are verified to ensure that water abstraction data is accurate to within a five percent margin of error. This verification is required within the same water year as any new installation, and every five years thereafter.
With the demands of day-to-day management, time and maintenance can get away. Summer is a good time to verify your water measuring and recording devices.
